Training / H&S

Continuous evaluation and improvement in our working practices has resulted in achieving accreditation with the following inspectorates: Contractors Health & Safety Accreditation Scheme (CHAS), Construction Line and Safe Contractor.

In an industry where working at height is an unavoidable requirement, it is imperative that as a Company we continue to invest in the correct training for all our Staff. This offers assurance to your Company of our ongoing commitment to provide safe Security Installations and Service at all times. The first training provided to new trainees is not technical, but Health & Safety!

Our Company is very proud of its Health and Safety record which has in part been achieved by investment in our own Access Mounted Platforms (MEWPs). Providing this facility ‘in house’ is often a crucial factor to our many customers saving them time and expense in hiring these units. All our MEWPs are LOLER Certified every 6 months in compliance with legislation.

There is a general lack of Health & Safety Training in the Security Industry. We are often shocked to find that in many cases, our trainees / apprentices have had far more training in Health & Safety procedures than qualified Engineers who join DJ Byers Ltd from other companies, which have clearly failed to invest in Safety. That Company’s certification may have been achieved by just a handful of their team of Engineers. At DJ Byers Ltd, we ensure that each and every one of our Engineers is fully trained in Health & Safety procedures.

All of our Engineers have been trained, certified or checked in the following:

  • BLMA – Safe Ladders Operation
  • IPAF – Access Platform Licence
  • First Aid Appointed Person Course (renewed every 3 years)
  • Manual Handling / Safe Lifting
  • Asbestos Awareness (annual Asbestos training)
  • BS7858 (previous 5 year history of all DJ Byers Ltd Staff)
  • IOSH Managing Safely (completed by Engineers after 6 months)
  • Confined Spaces (select Engineers)

This is validated, recognised external training, not in house.
